Alarming was born with the makings of a great racehorse, by Unbridled’s Song and out of a stakes-placed daughter of Malibu Moon. In his 29 starts in three seasons, he earned just under $60,000 with a record of 3-4-3.
At the age of 4 and with a clean bill of health, Alarming transitioned through Maryland’s Beyond the Wire, a program that places horses from Maryland racetracks into TAA-accredited organizations. Upon receiving the call from Beyond the Wire, TAA-accredited MidAtlantic Horse Rescue accepted him into their program in the weeks leading up to the 2018 Thoroughbred Makeover.
Clare and Tom Mansmann, both accomplished off-track Thoroughbred trainers, were one of three demonstrators chosen for the RRP Master Class. Alarming, just 44 days after his last race, was one of three horses in the class. The three trainers drew straws for mounts for the demonstration. Unbeknownst to the Mansmann’s they drew what would come to be their 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover mount, Alarming.
After that weekend, the Mansmann’s and MidAtlantic Horse Rescue worked to get Alarming adopted and into his new home at their farm Pacific Farms Inc. in Middleburg, VA. Since then Alarming has participated in a Jimmy Wofford clinic, has fox hunted, and is gearing up for the 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover. Beyond the Wire’s Jessica Hammond, who has followed his journey, says, “There’s nothing he can’t do.”
