Exciting Bucket now spends her days leisurely wandering around a pasture full of other retired mares at Our Mims Retirement Haven, but she earned that retirement with a career spanning nine years and 92 races. The grey 1989 Kentucky-bred mare spent the majority of her career under the care of trainer Vincent Fariello, racing exclusively at Turfway Park and River Downs in claiming races. “Buckets” found the winner’s circle 19 times before being retired to her trainer’s family farm.
Buckets lived with her trainer and his family for 14 years, allowed to have the run of the place and do as she pleased with no expectations. After the sad passing of Mr. Fariello, his wife contacted Our Mims to ask that they take Buckets in and continue to provide the care befitting the mare. The people of Our Mims were honored to be able to take over the mare’s care, with Jeanne Mirabito, the President of Our Mims, stating: “It is an honor to be chosen to care for this great hors through the rest of her retirement. And it is heartwarming to know that people like the Fariellos still care about our equine friends.”
