Gulfstream Park will provide a unique opportunity for all equine owners and enthusiasts to ride their horses across the legendary South Florida track Saturday, Nov. 9 in the inaugural Canter for the Cause.
Participants will be able to walk, trot, or canter across the same track that has hosted such champions as Cigar, Holy Bull, California Chrome, Easy Goer, Sunday Silence, Northern Dancer, Unbridled, Needles, and many more.
Canter for the Cause, benefiting the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and Whispering Manes Therapeutic Riding Center, will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a donation of $50 per trip. There will be three groups: Group 1 Arrogate (Walk), Group 2 Gun Runner (Walk/Trot), and Group 3 City of Light (Walk/Trot/Canter).
Participants will choose their groups when registering. All participants will have a chance to have their picture taken in the winner’s circle. All riders must wear helmets and proper boots or shoes. All horses must have a valid and current Coggins to show at registration.
Canter for the Cause has been conducted for several years at Pimlico Race Course, home of the Preakness Stakes (G1), the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown. Both Pimlico and Gulfstream are properties of The Stronach Group.
“This has been a very rewarding and special event put on by our friends at the Maryland Jockey Club at Pimlico, and we know it’s going to be a truly memorable event here at Gulfstream for all who participate and volunteer,” said Gulfstream Vice President Bill Badgett.
“The TAA is honored to be one of the beneficiaries of this great event, and we’re thankful for Gulfstream Park’s continued support of Thoroughbred aftercare. We encourage everyone in the area to come join us for a fun day of riding on the racetrack,” said Stacie Clark, operations consultant for Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.
