Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Present at Churchill Downs for Kentucky Derby Week

Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be present at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby Week for a variety of exciting events leading up to the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve which takes place on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be recognized with a named race on the undercard of Champions Day. Champions Day is a celebration of Thoroughbred racing history, and will be held during Kentucky Derby Week on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Following the running of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance race, a presentation will be made to the winning connections including a branded blanket and branded merchandise. A representative from Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be present to host the winners of the “Off to the Races” VIP Experience online benefit auction. This exciting VIP experience was generously donated by Churchill Downs Incorporated and Second Stride. The winners will enjoy all-inclusive box seats, tickets to the Winner’s Party at the Kentucky Derby Museum and a tour of Second Stride, a Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance accredited organization.

Days End Farm Horse Rescue 1372 Woodbine Road, Maryland

Days End Farm Horse Rescue offers a two-hour program designed specifically for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. DEFHR's Scout Day Program includes a tour of the farm, educational talk, hands-on horse grooming, hands-on horse leading, and a short riding demonstration. This program allows numerous troops to join us on one day to gain knowledge and develop a passion for horses. Participants will earn a Days End Farm Horse Rescue Badge.

Saddle up for an unforgettable evening as Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue, a nonprofit equine sanctuary dedicated to providing a safe haven for retired Thoroughbreds, proudly presents the 150th Kentucky Derby Celebration. This year, our key fundraising event will be honoring Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino, New York Thoroughbred Breeders Executive Director Najja Thompson and Lucky Orphans’ own grant writer, Dawn Isaacson. The event is set to take place on May 4th, 2024, promising a memorable evening of horse racing, entertainment, and charitable spirit. The 150th Kentucky Derby, the first race of the Triple Crown, will be shared live at Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue. The pre-race celebration will feature hors d’oeuvres, beverages, games and live coverage of the pre-race. At post time, we will watch the Derby, cheering on our favorite horse. We invite you to come watch the race LIVE at the farm, and then enjoy dinner, live music by Way Behind the Sun, dancing and drinks. This event will create an immersive experience that not only celebrates the rich tradition of the Kentucky Derby, it will also raise awareness and support for the mission of “People Helping Horses Heal People.” After the race, guests will have the opportunity to meet retired racehorses, and hear from previous clients of the equine assisted development programs. As Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue gallops towards the 150th Kentucky Derby, the organization invites the community to celebrate the spirit of horse racing while making a positive impact on the lives of horses in need, as well as the human clients these horses help through personal mental health needs.
