Days End Farm Horse Rescue offers a two-hour program designed specifically for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. DEFHR's Scout Day Program includes a tour of the farm, educational talk, hands-on horse grooming, hands-on horse leading, and a short riding demonstration. This program allows numerous troops to join us on one day to gain knowledge and develop a passion for horses. Participants will earn a Days End Farm Horse Rescue Badge.

Circle A Home For Horses: Paint and Ponies
Join us at Circle A for Paint and Ponies-- our horse ambassadors will serve appetizers and drinks as you paint your very own equine-inspired artwork, and meet and mingle with some of our horses! Ticket sales and the time for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
Horsemanship Lessons with DEFHR Trainers, Sara Strauss & Leigha Schrader
Registration includes a 1-hour semi-private lesson with one of DEFHR's trainers; Pairings and instructor are to be decided based on experience and personal goal setting. All levels and abilities welcome! DEFHR horses are available for borrow (groundwork lesson only) OR trailer in your equine partner (groundwork and/or riding lesson). Lesson time slots will be determined after registration via email. Come for just your time slot, or come for the whole day and audit with your fellow clinic participants! About our Trainers: Sara Strauss has been DEFHR's Head Trainer for over 15 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in everything horses. She is known for her quiet communication and has worked in a variety of disciplines, from dressage to western riding. Sara is passionate about educating the adult horse person on ways to better communicate with horses, whether it is on the ground or under saddle. Her focus is on biomechanics and body position, both in and out of the saddle. Wherever you are on your horsemanship journey, Sara is ready to meet you where you are at. Leigha Schrader's passion for DEFHR and the rescue horse shines through in everything she does. Leigha's training methods focus on finding balance in all areas of horsemanship. She incorporates positive reinforcement, clicker training, and liberty/trick training into her programs. Leigha is passionate about starting horses ethically from the ground up and showcasing how amazing rescue horses can be through her liberty performance work. Under saddle, Leigha has found success on the local and rated Hunter/Jumper circuits. She enjoys teaching compassionate horsemanship, both in and out of the saddle! About the event Calling all Equine Photography enthusiasts! Come learn from three experienced equine photographers (Lori Sortino, Deb Hofstetter, and Cathy Wallace) who have worked together since 2019 photographing horses. Together we have produced thousands of horse images, including portraits, action, running, jumping, detail, artistic, technical, competition, and candids. We will teach you how to capture great horse images under various conditions, and how to work with the real world challenges of backgrounds, lighting, and horse behavior! Workshop Limited to 8 participants. Where will the Workshop Take Place? We will be photographing the horses (and burros if you wish!) at Redwings Horse Sanctuary, located at 6875 Union Rd. Paso Robles, CA 93446 The Sanctuary is about 20 minutes from town. What's included in this workshop? Saturday May 18, 2024 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. MORNING WORKSHOP ~ Starting at day break gives us the opportunity to shoot with beautiful early morning light. We’ll shoot until the light gets challenging (between 9-9:30 a.m.), have a light breakfast, then we’ll show you how to take portraits using the shade of a barn and natural lighting along with post processing edits to perfect the final image. We’ll wrap up in time to send you off for lunch with friends in town or to head somewhere to do some image review and editing! Our annual Ladies’ Lunch at Woodbine will be held May 25th, so join us at noon in the Post Parade room on the third floor for great food, fun and thoroughbred racing, all in support of our wonderful horses. Attendees last year were treated to a variety of prizes which included watching a race with Woodbine’s personable race caller, Robert Geller, from his perch on the sixth floor, and taking part in a race presentation. Exclusively Equine will be attending for your shopping pleasure and we will be hosting a silent auction and raffle as well.
