With over 350 breeds of ponies and horses in the world today, these animals have given humans so many reasons to love them. Join us in celebrating our love of horses at Lucky Orphans on July 13th! Meet the minis and draft horses, spend some time with a retired racehorse. Our mission is People Helping Horses Heal People, and we invite you to learn how our 49 rescued horses work with people to educate, support and heal our community. Come learn about Lucky Orphans while supporting local vendors and making memories. Lucky Orphans is the highest accredited and licensed farm in Dutchess County, offering the highest level of equine assisted therapy and development programs. Horsemanship Lessons with DEFHR Trainers, Sara Strauss & Leigha Schrader

Registration includes a 1-hour semi-private lesson with one of DEFHR's trainers; Pairings and instructor are to be decided based on experience and personal goal setting. All levels and abilities welcome! DEFHR horses are available for borrow (groundwork lesson only) OR trailer in your equine partner (groundwork and/or riding lesson). Lesson time slots will be determined after registration via email. Come for just your time slot, or come for the whole day and audit with your fellow clinic participants! About our Trainers: Sara Strauss has been DEFHR's Head Trainer for over 15 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in everything horses. She is known for her quiet communication and has worked in a variety of disciplines, from dressage to western riding. Sara is passionate about educating the adult horse person on ways to better communicate with horses, whether it is on the ground or under saddle. Her focus is on biomechanics and body position, both in and out of the saddle. Wherever you are on your horsemanship journey, Sara is ready to meet you where you are at. Leigha Schrader's passion for DEFHR and the rescue horse shines through in everything she does. Leigha's training methods focus on finding balance in all areas of horsemanship. She incorporates positive reinforcement, clicker training, and liberty/trick training into her programs. Leigha is passionate about starting horses ethically from the ground up and showcasing how amazing rescue horses can be through her liberty performance work. Under saddle, Leigha has found success on the local and rated Hunter/Jumper circuits. She enjoys teaching compassionate horsemanship, both in and out of the saddle!   FEE: $75/person

Illinois Equine Humane Center ‘Barnyard Bash’

The nonprofit equine rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption organization is dedicated to helping horses in need and improving the welfare of horses in general. The “Barnyard Bash” is an opportunity for the public to lend its support to ILEHC’s equine rescue efforts, and learn about horses, all while having a fun-filled day at the farm. The event includes a silent auction featuring gift baskets, vacation packages, local experiences, and more. The event also includes live music by the band Outpatience, as well as Dave’s Slow Food Trucks and Sweet Station, raffles, games, a bouncy house, a kids agility course, a visit from Maple Park Fire Department, and more.   Cost is $20 or $10 for ages 6 to 12.   You're invited to CKRH's 1st Annual Open Barn Day! Bring all your friends and family to learn more about programs at CKRH. Come visit our facility located in the Kentucky Horse Park, and learn all about Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, what we do, who we serve, and how you can get involved! There will be opportunities to find out about other community resources for participants along with fun demonstrations you can participate in. Enjoy a relaxing morning here at the barn, take a tour of the facility with one of our staff, meet all our lovely horses, and watch a lesson demonstration. For a small donation, you can even be a part of a "Minis & Me" lesson that morning. We will have free popsicles and water for guests to enjoy, and food will be available for purchase.
