Calling all 9-14 year old horse crazy kids to Castle Rock Farm! Take part in Hope’s Legacy’s Horsemanship Program led by our equine experts. Our staff will guide your child through learning all things equine from breed, color, and horse type to grooming and general care. This is a time to be hands-on with their favorite animal in a friendly, fun environment that will expand their knowledge working from the ground. Don’t miss our annual Hoofin’ It For Horses 5k race and Fall Open House on Saturday, October 5th at 2080 Castle Rock Road, Afton, VA 22920! First, gallop through the farm in this all ages and all fitness levels fun run starting at 8:00am. After working up a sweat, cool down during our Fall Open House from 9am to 2pm with self-guided tours meeting our rescue horses, enjoying hay rides, and discovering activities for the whole family. Our 5k is limited to 200 runners, so sign up early to secure your spot. Early registration (now through September 19, 2024) is $30 for Adults and $20 for 17 and under. Late registration (September 20 through October 3) is $40 for Adults $40 and $20 for 17 and under. The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center is a non-profit organization with a mission to help, heal, and home the state's most at-risk equines, regardless of breed.  For almost 20 years, we have rescued and rehomed thousands of horses.  Proceeds from the tournament will help feed and care for our herd of formerly-neglected horses.   Monday, October 7, 2024   Marriot Griffin Gate Resort 1800 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY   Shotgun Start 1:00 P.M. This sale is one of the largest in the Bluegrass region for equestrians to purchase gently used tack, riding apparel, and other barn necessities at greatly reduced costs. Don’t miss this annual Tack Sale that transforms our arena into a treasure chest of amazing finds and even better deals. This year’s event will be Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. From seasoned equestrians to new horse owners, everyone can find exactly what they need. Sign up for this training session open to Animal Control Officers throughout Virginia. Are you an Animal Control Officer that would like more experience and training with equines? These open houses provide an opportunity for our community ACO to learn and practice necessary equine handling in preparation for equine seizures and cases involving equines. Attendees practice haltering, leading, and trailer loading in addition to learning about basic equine body language, equine body scoring, and how to approach scared/nervous/upset equines.
