Take part in Hope’s Legacy’s Horsemanship Program led by our equine experts. Our staff will guide your child through learning all things equine from breed, color, and horse type to grooming and general care. This is a time to be hands-on with their favorite animal in a friendly, fun environment that will expand their knowledge working from the ground. Any cruelty investigator who does not work with horses on a regular basis would benefit from this instruction. This course will prepare you to feel more self-assured around horses, have a better understanding of the equine mind, and be better prepared to determine when a horses needs are not being met. Topics covered include: Case Histories, Horse Handling and Safety, Hoof Anatomy and Hoof Problems, Use of Height and Weight Tapes, Color and Breed Identification, Dental Care of Equines, Trailering Tips, Body Condition Scoring, Examining for Illness and Injury, and Minimum Horse Care Standards. REGISTRATION FEE: $100.00 (lunch included, both days)

Woodbine RacetrackThoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be present at Woodbine Racetrack on Saturday, October 5, 2024, for their Woodbine Aftercare Day. Woodbine hosts Aftercare Day every year as a way to promote and encourage Thoroughbred aftercare for all racehorses after their racing careers are finished. Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will present Best Turned Out Horse Awards, generously sponsored by Josham Farms Limited, for all of the races on Saturday. The winners of the Best Turned Out Horse Awards will receive a Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance gift bag with branded merchandise.
Hope’s Legacy: Hoofin It For Horses 5K & Fall Open House
Hope's Legacy Equine Rescue 2080 Castle Rock Road, Afton, VA, United StatesDon’t miss our annual Hoofin’ It For Horses 5k race and Fall Open House on Saturday, October 5th at 2080 Castle Rock Road, Afton, VA 22920! First, gallop through the farm in this all ages and all fitness levels fun run starting at 8:00am. After working up a sweat, cool down during our Fall Open House from 9am to 2pm with self-guided tours meeting our rescue horses, enjoying hay rides, and discovering activities for the whole family. Our 5k is limited to 200 runners, so sign up early to secure your spot. Early registration (now through September 19, 2024) is $30 for Adults and $20 for 17 and under. Late registration (September 20 through October 3) is $40 for Adults $40 and $20 for 17 and under. The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center is a non-profit organization with a mission to help, heal, and home the state's most at-risk equines, regardless of breed. For almost 20 years, we have rescued and rehomed thousands of horses. Proceeds from the tournament will help feed and care for our herd of formerly-neglected horses. October 9-12, 2024 Where? Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington Who can participate? Accepted trainers (professionals, amateurs, juniors and teams) who apply between January 2 - January 19, 2024, with Jockey Club-registered Thoroughbreds who marked a workout or race after July 1, 2022 and did not have more than 15 retraining rides prior to December 1, 2023. Late applications are also open through the end of June. How are horses acquired for competition? Trainers are responsible for acquiring their own eligible horses, whether through an aftercare organization, directly from track connections, or through a reselling agent. Trainers may opt to list their horse for sale via the Makeover Marketplace, but there is no requirement to sell the horse after competition.
